Astronomy

The cool part of science fiction, ie. the part we're seeing right now.

I just found the website Heavens Above by following a link from Bad Astronomy, and I've been out looking for satellites.

Oct 13. 2003

This was the Cosmos 2287 Rocket which I saw passing through Cygnus at 17:38, continuing past Cassiopeia at 17:40.

This was the Lacrosse 4 US Military Reconaissance satellite, which had a similar path to the Cosmos 2287 Rocket I saw earlier, but this one was at straight through both Cygnus and Cassiopeia, passing gamma Cassiopeiae at a minimum distance of about 10 archminutes (as measured on the path plot, not a naked eye guess:).

First one found from info on the site was the Lacrosse 4 Rocket which I saw passing through Cygnus at 18:42:00-18:42:30, going parallel with the "wings".
